I was one of nine children born to hard-working parents. I graduated law school in Cleveland. My first opportunity to practice law came as an assistant county prosecutor. With the help of the police department, I prosecuted criminals, sending them to jail and prison. It was important work. My next opportunity as a lawyer came as a labor lawyer. I’ve represented teachers’ unions and the United Auto Workers, handling strikes and matters pending before the National Labor Relations Board. Once in Willoughby, I got teargassed while on a picket line. After practicing criminal law and labor law, I decided I liked handling difficult and hard cases. Those are the challenging parts of the practice of law. I ended up doing injury law. The reason it’s difficult and challenging is because on one side, you have these huge insurance companies with massive amounts of money all invested—and they don’t want to spend any of that money to compensate people who are in accidents. On the other side of the equation, you have somebody who’s on their way to work, taking their kids to school, maybe shopping—and bam—in an instant, they’re hit by a truck, a car, or have their motorcycle hit. They don’t have the resources. They’ve lost their income stream. They’ve lost their car. They’ve lost the ability to support their family. That’s where a good lawyer comes in—because a good lawyer can even that playing field. So, if you need a good lawyer, you’ve been in an accident and you’re injured, call the Gervelis Law Firm. We’ll be there to help you.
